Pickleball Court Dimensions: Everything You Need to Know

Introduction

If you’re setting up a court, taping lines, or just want to understand positioning better, here are the official pickleball court dimensions—simple and straight to the point.

1) Standard Pickleball Court Dimensions (20 x 44 ft)

A regulation pickleball court is:

  • 20 feet wide
  • 44 feet long

This applies to both indoor and outdoor courts, and it’s the same size used in tournaments.

Total court size: 20 x 44 ft (6.10 x 13.41 meters)

2) Net Height (36″ at Posts, 34″ at Center)

Pickleball net height is slightly lower in the middle:

  • 36 inches (3 feet) at the posts
  • 34 inches at the center

This “dip” in the middle affects shot selection—especially on low dinks and speed-ups.

3) Non-Volley Zone (Kitchen) Depth: 7 ft

The Non-Volley Zone (NVZ)—commonly called the kitchen—is the area near the net where volleys are restricted.

Kitchen depth: 7 feet from the net on each side

So from the net to the kitchen line is 7 ft, and it exists on both sides of the court.

Key note: You can step into the kitchen, but you cannot volley while standing in it (or on the line).

4) Singles vs. Doubles Court Size (It’s the Same!)

Unlike tennis, pickleball does not change court size for singles vs doubles.

  • Singles court size: 20 x 44 ft
  • Doubles court size: 20 x 44 ft

Same court. Same lines. Same kitchen.

Quick Summary (Save This)

  • Court size: 20 x 44 ft
  • Net height: 36″ at posts / 34″ center
  • Kitchen depth: 7 ft
  • Singles vs doubles: Same court size
